SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Center for Writing will host a nature writing and drawing workshop for children next Saturday, led by Saranac Lake High School sophomore Jenna Audlin.

Art and writing created in the class will be published in “Explore More! ADK Outdoor Challenge for Kids,” the second nature activity book created by Jenna Audlin.

When she was 9 years old and living in Colorado, Audlin partnered with a friend to create her first nature activity book, “Explore More! Outdoor Challenge for Kids: Bear Creek Watershed.” Audlin moved with her family to Saranac Lake in December of 2021 and has been working on her Adirondack-themed activity book since this spring. The book is nearly completed, but the missing pieces are drawings and writings by Adirondack youth. This workshop will help Audlin finish her project, and it should be for sale by this fall.

Perfect for any kids who like to write, draw, or explore nature, Audlin’s workshop will include a floral mandala project, writing prompts and drawing challenges. The Saturday, July 30 workshop is held in two parts, first for ages 5-8 at 11 a.m., and then for 9-12 year olds at 12:30 p.m. Parents can register their kids for free through the Adirondack Center for Writing website, adirondackcenterforwriting.org.

All students who participate in the workshop will receive a complimentary copy of the “ADK Outdoor Challenge for Kids Activity Book” when it is published, and they will be able to take the art and writing they create home with them that day.
