TASCHEN and Marvel announce the launch of Marvel Comics Library

The series will be unveiled next year with Spider-Man. roll. 1. 1962-1964, a super large and detailed reproduction of Lee/Ditko's classic works

At last! We have been saying this for years, but methodically reprinting Marvel’s most popular work is a license to print money... and Taschen obviously paid for the license. Marvel and Taschen just announced the Marvel Comics Library, which is an "exclusive long-term collaboration between TASCHEN and Marvel."

In this decade-long project, classic comics including Spider-Man, Avengers and Captain America will be reprinted in full-color, oversized format. It will start with Spider-Man next year (we assume). roll. 1. 1962-1964, which contains the first 21 Spider-Man stories by Stan Lee and Steve Dietko. The volume will include a historical article by Marvel editor Ralph Macchio, an introduction by collector David Mandel, original art boards, rare photos and behind-the-scenes materials.

The next work in the "Marvel Comic Library" series will be the Avengers. roll. 1. 1963-1965, Fantastic Four. roll. 1. 1961-1963 and Captain America, both scheduled to be released in 2022 and 2023.

Prior to this announcement, Marvel launched the venerable Penguin classic series, which is another more affordable Silver Age and the greatest Marvel comic series in the future.

TASCHEN is known for its brilliant art books, so when they promise to "carefully" copy, trust it. The price has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be collector-level, that is, high. It remains to be seen how this oversized version compares with the established "artist version" size.

TASCHEN’s oversized size is close to that of the original artwork, revealing amazing new details in the works of Marvel’s most acclaimed artists. For each work in the series, we worked closely with Marvel and the certification guarantee company to crack the original lineage comics for reproduction. TASCHEN did not recolor the original works (as it did in the reprints of classic comics of the past few decades), but tried to create the ideal representation of these books when they were published. Starting from the high-quality, top-notch comics purchased with the assistance of CGC, the ultra-high-resolution photos of each page were printed more than half a century ago, using modern retouching technology to correct the cheap and imperfect printing of the times. This includes improved and balanced ink density and color matching, correct registration of four-color printing, and correction of thick/thin lines due to "smudge" of the flexographic printing plate. The end result is a finished product-as hot as a world-class printing press produced without economic or time pressure constraints-tailored for readers, fans, artists, collectors, etc.

Each volume contains an article by a manga historian and hundreds of photos and artifacts. These books use three different paper materials, including uncoated and wood-free paper specially developed for this series, to simulate the feel of the original comics.

The first 5,000 copies of Spider-Man. roll. 1 will be numbered and released as the "famous first edition". This book is also available in a collector's edition, limited to 1,000 copies. The aluminum printed cover is tilted to the spine of the artificial leather binding, embossed in aluminum foil, and packed in a school bag. Each book is individually numbered. The first purchase of the Collector's Edition gives collectors the right to preemptively ensure that all upcoming Collector's Edition titles in the "Marvel Comics Library" have the same version number.

Seeing Marvel begin to license its legendary library to other publishers, this is definitely an opportunity for readers to have some of the most influential comics ever in modern editions.

Hmm... I might be interested because although I like Marvel synthesis, I really don't like them on glossy paper (for old materials), and I think the coloring is weird. They should reprint these things, such as Carl Barks Duck by Fantagraphics. Unlike the Marvel team, Rich Tomasso actually knows what he is doing with color. Maybe Taschen's team will make a better product. I know that Folio Society made a Spider-Man book. That book looks great, but it won’t reprint an entire comic like this.

It is listed on the Taschen website at a price of $200, and the listing date is December 28, 2021.

It's crazy to reprint these stories at a price of more than $1 per issue-is this almost the price that viewers are willing to pay?

How about we print JLA/Avengers in a format that can make a lot of money for George Perez’s family?

Brian Hibbs, $1 per issue would be great, but those are the prices of Black and White Essentials. Even Epic Collections is $2 per issue. Compared to the beautiful hardcover Taschen art books with special paper and everything, these are discounted tpb versions.

Brian Hibbs, I know that you are a retailer and know better than me in these aspects, but I am willing to pay extra to purchase fine hardcover books and paper suitable for the materials. If it is a TPB with glossy paper, then the $1-2 question is definitely appropriate. If its quality and size are similar to the new Sin City Deluxe Edition with matte paper, or the original problem is scanned very well, or it is repaired in excellent colors similar to the Carl Barks Duck reprint, then I’m willing Pay more. However, this actually only applies to certain runs, such as Ditko & Lee runs, Romita & Lee, Romita Jr. and Stern, etc. The modern operation of Spider-Man provides a good service through the integrated or TPB format.

For me, format is everything when dealing with these old materials. I want to read a book that respects the material and respects it, and Taschen seems to know how to do it. I have some comic retrospectives, and they are beautifully combined. Perhaps the one I cherish the most is my large hardcover version of Krazy Kay reprint, which is priced at $200.

Just read the taschen website. It looks much better than any reprint released by Marvel. I want to buy this

What about the golden age books that are largely ignored? I would love to see Timely's complete series of "Mystery of Miracles", "Captain America", "Select All", "All Winners", "Sailor", "Firebolt", "Young Allies" and so on.
