Portland Open Studios announced its first employee among executive director Kirista Trask (current chairman of the board), namely a paid employee.

This is a recruitment supported by Murdoch Trust Fund.

This move heralds a new era for the organization previously run by volunteers, which has organized the largest and oldest free city-wide art studio tour in the region for 23 years. It is held on the second and third weekends of October.

In recent years, Portland Open Studios has transformed from an event-only non-profit organization to providing professional development services to help artists navigate the digital age.

Movie Madness, an iconic audiovisual store purchased by the Hollywood Theater in recent years, is located at 4320 Southeast Belmont Street and has celebrated its 30th anniversary. And, it marks 30 years with the book "Crazy Movies: 30 Years Behind the Counter of Portland's Iconic Video Store", which collects interviews, articles, photos, original art and more.

This includes an article by Todd Haynes, a store frequent (and widely acclaimed director), who explains how the store’s collection informs his work, as well as to Mike Clark, the founder of Movie Madness (Mike Clark) in-depth interview.

The book ($15) was released on December 8 and is available for purchase at Movie Madness, Powell's Books and Floating World Comics, and the online movie moviemadness.org/book.

Movie Madness has a collection of 80,000 movies and videos.

It provides a good resource for nearly 140,000 children who have lost their parents or guardians due to COVID-19. The printed "Children's Book About Grief" will be available on January 18, 2022 (tentative). Keep reading below

It was written in collaboration with Brennan Wood, executive director of the Dougy Center and A Kids Company About. Five other children's books were released in the eighth series launched in November. Other topics include Alzheimer's disease, anger, self-confidence, imprisonment and online life.

The Dougy Center was established in 1982 to provide support to children and families who grieve before and after death.

Reminder: Portland’s famous roller derby club Rose City Rollers will resume the game at the hangar of Oaks Amusement Park at 4:30 pm on December 18th-652nd after they closed their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic sky.

The club hopes to have a full season of roller skating derby in 2022.

Before the pandemic, Rose City Rollers held 17 projects with 500 skaters and 800 volunteers.
